長短/Take Your Time
Hachi and Yasu are best friends.
Hachi is always relaxed and does things slowly.
He never gets angry.
Yasu likes to do everything quickly.
He also gets angry very quickly and very often.
One day, Hachi visits Yasu.
“Hey Yasu, how’s it going?
I brought some manju.
Let’s eat them together.”
“Hachi, you’re late again.
I’ve waited for you for a long time.”
“A long time?
I was only three minutes late.”
“Ha, three minutes is a long time for me.
“Don’t be angry, Yasu.
Let’s eat the manju.”
The two men start eating.
Hachi eats one manju very slowly.
“This tastes so good.
I’m in heaven.”
“You’re still eating your first manju?
I can’t believe it.
You should eat quickly like me.”
“That’s a great idea.
But if I eat my manju slowly I can enjoy it longer.
Eating slowly helps me relax.”
“Ahh, you’re too slow.
If you eat it fast like me, you can eat more manju.”
The two men fisnish their manju.
And next, it’s smoking time.
They take out their kisel pipes.
When Hachi finally lights his pipe, Yasu has already finished smoking.
“Ha, this is heaven.”
“Hachi, why are you so slow?”
“Smoking slowly helps me relax.”
“Really?
I like to smoke quickly.
If you finish things quickly.
You have more time to do other things.
Watch out first I can like my pipe.”
Yasu puts some tobacco into his pipe and quickly lights it.
His hands move so fast that some tobacco with fire on it falls into the sleeve of his kimono.
Yasu himself doesn’t notice this.
“See, Hachi.
This is how you light a pipe.”
“Wow, you’re really good, Yasu.
But I want to tell you something.”
“Are you going to give me advice?
I don’t have time to listen.”
“It’s not advice.
But it’s really important.
“Important?
Since you are an old friend.
I’ll listen to you.”
“OK.
When you lit your pipe some burning tobacco fell into the sleeve of your kimono.
Smoke is coming out of your sleeve right now.”
“What’s?
Oh no!
My kimono is burning.
There is a big hole in it.
Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“Well, watching the smoke makes me relax.”

二人の性格は、見方によって長所、短所になりますね
