George Clooney
Who do you think is the most successful actor in Hollywood?
Many people say, George Clooney.
It’s true he is good-looking and popular but he is much more than just a handsome actor.
He is also a talented movie director and he helps people all around the world.
Clooney was born in 1961 in Kentucky in the USA.
His father is a famous newscaster and his aunt was a singer and an actor.
At college, Clooney studied journalism, but he soon quit and did various jobs.
One job was selling shoes to women.
Later, Clooney decided to become an actor and soon started to get small roles.
In 1994, when Clooney was 32 years old he got the part of Doctor Ross on the TV series ER.
The series and his character were really popular and he became a star.
After leaving ER, he played Badman in Batman & Robin.
The movie wasn’t a hit and Clooney then understood he did not want to be in movies that were created just to make money.
After this experience, Clooney started producing movies.
When he played the main role in Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, he created a production company with the director Steven Soderbergh.
The next year, this company produced a movie about a famous TV producer with a secret life.
Clooney directed this movie.
He found that he enjoyed directing more than acting.
He said,
“Directing is really exciting.
In the end, it’s more fun to be the painter than the paint.”

In the 2005 movie, Good Night, and Good Luck, a political drama, Cloony wrote the script and directed it.
He was nominated for two Academy Awards.
Outside of Hollywood, Clooney has helped people around the world.
In 2006, he went to Darfur in Sudan with his journalist father to report about the war there.
They made a documentary and was shown on TV in the U.S., the U.K., and France.
Then Clooney met with President Obama and talked to him about the importance of solving the problem in Sudan.
He also visited the leaders of China and Egypt to ask them to help.
One time he was even arrested by the police for joining a demonstration outside the Sudanese Embassy in the U.S.
He did everything he could to help the people in Darfur.
He was even chosen to be a united nations messenger of peace.
Clooney continues to make movies and do humanitarian work.
He is still one of the most popular actors in Hollywood and many people enjoy his movies.
Geroge Clooney did not become a journalist, but because of his success in Hollywood, people will listen to him when he talks about the problems in this world.
