「親愛なるサンタさんへ①/An Early Letter to Santa1」
An Early Letter to Santa1
Hi, my name is Namiko and I live in Nagoya, Japan.
I’m 9 years old.
Do you remember me?
You gave me a video game last year.
I really enjoy playing it.
My mother doesn’t want me to play it too much.
So I only play it for an hour each day.
I am a good girl, right?
Two years ago, you gave me plastic blocks.
I still use them sometimes.
I take good care of my presents.
Today, I’m not writing to ask for a Christmas present.
It’s only June.
I’m writing to you because I need some help.
You see, I still ride the bicycle you gave me 3 years ago.
It was my first bicycle.
I really like it.
But it’s getting too small for me now.
And guess what, Santa?
I have to take a bicycle to school in September.
They will be a road security class.
I think I have to have a bigger bicycle for that.
Because I don’t want to be the only person with a 16-inch bike.
My friends will laugh at me.
So I asked my mother to buy a new one.
But she said I have to throw away my old bike before I get a new one.
We don’t have enough space to park two children’s bikes.
“Could you please take my old bike up to your house?”
Then I think my parents will buy me a new one.
I hope you can help me.
Thank you for your letter.
I do remember you.
You live in a white apartment building in Nagoya.
Your house has two rooms and a bathroom.
I think your mother grows plants on the balcony, right?
The flowers must be very pretty now.
I’m sorry but I can’t take away your bicycle.
My reindeer are away on vacation.
So I don’t have a way to get to your home.
Also, if I collect old presents, there will be no space in my house for new ones.
I think you should ask your parents to do something about your bicycle.
I’m sorry I can’t help you.
“What’s the matter, Namiko?”
“I asked Santa to pick up my bicycle and keep it at his house for me.
But he said No.”
“Maybe we should throw away your old bicycle.”
I want Santa to take care of it for me.
I’m going to write it to him again.”
