What did they do when they got to the beach?
They built a boat, launched it, and headed for the ogres’ island or Onigashima.
What did the pheasant say about the head ogre?
He was the biggest of them all and was easily identifiable as he had a pair of golden horns on his head.

They were approaching the beach when a large pheasant buzzed over them and landed in front of them.
”Ha-ha, Momotaro-sama, those millet dumplings of yours look absolutely delicious.
What can I do to get one from you, sir?”
“Humm, you seem fit for the purpose of my journey.
I’m going to Onigashima to – the ogres.
If you come with me, I’ll treat you to a dumpling.”
“At your service!
The pheasant saluted Momotaro to show his loyalty and saw the young man offered him a millet dumpling.
The pheasant pecked at it ate up the dumpling.
“Oh, I feel energized.”
The pheasant flew up into the air and several nosedives.
“Ok, that’s enough.
We’ve got work to do.”
And then Momotaro and his subjects, the dog, the monkey, and the pheasant got straight to work and built a boat, launched it, and headed for the ogres’ island.
The sea was rough and the air was foggy.
They couldn’t see a thing so Momotaro called out an order to the pheasant.
“Pheasant, scout ahead and show us the way.”
The pheasant flew up and disappeared into the fog.
He returned in a flash and led the boat to the destination.
When the fog lifted they saw the island of the ogres.
The ogres’ fortress was dark and grey parched – on top of raggy rocks.
They quickly landed their boat in front of a huge gate with iron doors.
Then Momotaro gave the pheasant another command.
“Pheasant, fly over the fortress access the situation, and report back immediately.”
The pheasant flew up and slowly circled over the fortress spying on the ogres who were in the middle of drinking -.
The brave bird came back and reported to his commander.
“The ogres are drinking and merrymaking in the middle garden.
The head ogre is the biggest of them all and is easily identifiable as he has a pair of golden horns on his head.
The gate is bolted but there are no guards.”
“Well done, pheasant!
Now, everyone, listen up!
This is going to be the fight of a lifetime.
Eat a millet dumpling and prepare for battle!”
As they gobbled up the dumplings, they are all started to feel a rush of energy.
Then, Momotaro shouted out his orders.
“Monkey, climb over the gate and unlock it!
Pheasant, take your position above the gate and cover monkey!
Dog, come with me!”
