南総里見八犬伝 第四話 八人の勇士
The Eight Brave Warriors
Six of the eight crystal balls from Fuse-hime’s necklace have been found.
Then one day, Shino met a monk named Chudai-hoshi.
He used to be a samurai who worked for Fuse-hime’s father.
At that time, he was called Daisuke.
And he was the former fiance of Fuse-hime.
The monk said,
“After Fuse-hime died, I became a monk and started traveling around the country looking for the eight balls from her necklace.
If I can gather the eight people with those balls, I know they will make a strong and powerful team.
They can protect the Satomi family.
The family is in danger right now.
Please find all eight warriors and help the family to be strong again.
So people can live in peace.”
Shino and the others began a journey to find the missing warriors.
They found Dousetsu who run away with the sward Murasamemaru.
At last, they agree to become brothers.
It took some time to find the last two.
But they did.
The ball with the Chinese character ‘Chi’ belonged to a dancer in a performance group.
The last ball belonged to a man who fought against a monster cat in the mountains of Tochigi.
He had the character ‘Rei’.
‘Chi’ means the wisdom to understand the meaning of things.
‘Rei’ means to follow the rules of society.
All eight balls are now together, many many years after Fusehime’s death.
Fusehime’s brother Yoshinari was now the new leader of Awa province.
The eight warriors all came to his castle to serve the Satomi family.
They were the strongest team ever.
They fought against anyone who attacks their castle.
Together they could solve any problem.
Finally, peace came back to our province.
Yoshinari said to the eight warriors,
“Thank you for protecting my land.
I want to give each of you your own castle.
Also, you know that I have eight daughters.
You can marry them.
The eight warriors lived a long and happy life with their families.
What happened to the monk Chudai-hoshi, he connected the eight crystal balls together again to make a necklace.
He took it to Fuse-hime’s grave in the mountains and lived there quietly with her memory until he died.
When the eight warriors became really old they gathered in the mountains.
They lived there.
Enjoy the beauty of nature and never appeared in front of people again.
This was the story passed down in the Satomi family about the eight brave warriors.
